Yard Sale Tips by Donnie and Amber
- Price items to sell. Those rusty grass clippers, that belonged
to your favorite uncle, that don't work anymore, might be priceless
to you, but worth 7 cents to a buyer.
- Be willing to bargain. Know ahead what's your best price
for an item.
- Highly organized, colored-coded and priced, OR dusty boxes
full of treasures to sort though? Either method seems to be successful.
- Be ready to prove an item's workability. Have an electric
source available to test lamps and small appliances. Have items
like bicycles in good repair, to get the best price. Have all
parts and pieces for games and puzzles, etc.
- Be prepared for early-bird shoppers, they are really your
friend! Early-birds are often willing to pay top dollar for items
they really want. You take a risk that you will get a buyer for
your items later in the day.
- We like to have a quarter box full of items that somebody
out there can provide a good home for. You can put any small
items that you know aren't worth much there and see what happens.
Also, young "yard-salers-in-training" enjoy finding
something to purchase in the quarter box.
- BIG Sellers:
Small electronics that work; sheet sets and towels; quilts/bed
spreads; tools, garden and yard supplies; lamps, fans, air conditioners;
full sets of dishes; baby items; dressers; shelves
- SLOW movers (to let go at bargain prices):
Adult clothing, most books, used socks, used toothbrushes,
filthy crusty used coffee makers, broken mirrors, naked hairless
Barbies, colored in coloring books, stinky well-worn shoes, unruly
skeins of neon orange yarn
